When I was a kid, I use to get these cheap audio cassette tapes at Halloween time, usually from a Hooks Pharmacy in South Marion. The production quality was always terrible, and the weird, mono droning character would be a turn-off today. But, there was something still charming about these audio "haunted houses" that really marked my memory--I knew that, one day, I wanted to produce such sepulchral music with which to celebrate the Halloweens of Ages Past. My first Halloween album, produced over ten years ago now, but having had many more thousands of listens then I ever, at the time, would have thought possible, had a different character than this one. This album is more like those blasted audio cassettes I (or rather my mother) purchased for me from the drugstore Halloween rack, hanging between the nasty, greasy make-up and rubber masks. I hope it sends you, like it sends me, back through time, to a place where witches, ghosts and ghouls walked the earth--but for just one night! Pleasant screams. --Tom B.
