about

Once, long ago, in ancient China, the people were frightened by the image of a dragon devouring the sun. They went about beating gongs and drums, making an awful din, to try and frighten the dragon away. Finally, the Royal Astronomers Hsu and Hsi, pronounced that it was simply a solar eclipse--the result of the moon covering the sun for a time. The king was still wroth with them for failing to realize this initially, and had them beheaded.
